This is an antique Japanese tsurumaki, a woven holder for the tsuru (bow string) of a Japanese bow (yumi). This tsurumaki has a very rare leather strap for hanging the tsurumaki from a belt or other object. I do not know of any other images of such a strap.
I have a japanesse bow made from bamboo 60+ years old. Left unstrung for 6 months. I restung the other day string is loose. even though it was unattended it was wraped up in its cover away from direct sunlight and heat. any ideas as why alighment is off and how to correct.
